Building safe communities

Alberta addresses crime reduction with a balanced approach – prevention, intervention and enforcement – and community partnerships.

The Ministry uses its strategies and initiatives to:

  • increase the safety and resiliency of our communities
  • improve the personal and public safety of our citizens
  • reduce and prevent family violence and bullying
  • take action to address repeat offenders
  • help First Nations communities address the needs of at-risk community members
  • encourage and support local crime prevention programs
  • help community groups deal with gangs and marijuana grow-ops
