Director of law enforcement

This position:

  • monitors police services to ensure that adequate and effective policing is maintained across the province
  • monitors how public complaints against the police are handled
  • develops and promotes programs to improve practices, standards and training for police services, police commissions and RCMP policing committees

Types of policing

The Police Act defines how policing and police oversight are carried out. Three types of policing are used in Alberta.
