Programs

Personal development programs are offered in each correctional facility to address the needs of adult sentenced inmates and include:

Counseling and personal development programs

  • Life management skills
  • Anger management
  • Family violence prevention
  • Addictions awareness
  • Release planning
  • Aboriginal culture and spirituality programs

Employment and work programs  are offered to increase inmate employability

  • Employment skills

Educational/vocational programs

Operational Requirements for Correctional Centres

The following operational requirements ensure safety and security in correctional centres:

  • Assessment, classification, and placement of remand and sentenced inmates.
  • Supervision of remand and sentenced inmates.
  • Reporting on remand and sentenced inmates (e.g. behavior, health, etc.).
  • Providing rehabilitation services to sentenced and, where feasible and appropriate, remand inmates.
  • Providing health services to remand and sentenced inmates.
  • Providing specialized programs to sentenced inmates (e.g. family violence prevention program, prostitution prevention, anger management, substance abuse).
  • Providing opportunities for employment programs to sentenced inmates.
  • Providing opportunities for educational upgrading and skills training to sentenced inmates.
  • Collecting and sharing gang and organized crime intelligence.
  • Providing opportunities for Aboriginal inmate programs.
  • Court coordination for remand and sentenced inmates.
  • Transporting remand and sentenced inmates where required.
