Application Process

To apply on correctional peace officer positions, search the Government of Alberta Jobs Website (www.jobs.alberta.ca) using the keyword “Correctional”. In your resume, please include specific dates (including months and years) associated with all education and work experience. Also, please indicate whether your work experience is casual, part-time or full-time. For example: January 2006 - June 2009: Loss Prevention Officer (PT 3 shifts/week)

In addition to providing your resume, copies of the following documents must also be submitted at the time of application:

  1. Valid Standard First Aid and CPR  Level-C certification;
  2. Current Driver’s Abstract; and
  3. Current Criminal Records Check.

For out-of-province applicants, the documents requested above can be obtained from the province you reside in.

First Aid and CPR Certification

Applicants must have valid first aid and CPR Certification. If you do not have certification or require recertification, please visit the St.John Ambulance website for more information.

Driver’s Abstract

Correctional Peace Officers may be required to operate government vehicles for the purpose of transporting inmates throughout the province. For this reason, applicants are required to provide a current driver’s abstract that includes the last five years of your driving history. Criminal Records Check

All applicants hired to work for Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security are required to produce a current criminal records check before any offers of employment can be made. Criminal Records Checks can take a number of weeks to obtain. Please contact your local police agency for additional information. Click here for a list of police agencies.

* Please note: Candidates will be required to produce all original documents at the interview phase of the recruitment process. Applicants are responsible for all fees incurred to obtain the requested documentation. Criminal Records Checks and Driver’s Abstracts will be accepted within six months from the date the information was issued.
