The principal activity of LERB is to hear appeals from individuals who have filed a complaint regarding the actions of a police officer and who are not satisfied with the disposition of their complaint. Police officers who have been the subject of discipline arising out of a complaint, and who themselves feel aggrieved with the decision of their chief of police, may also appeal to LERB. LERB also hears appeals from peace officers who have had their appointments cancelled.
